How School Wishes Works

Every qualifying K-12 school will receive their own School Wishes website that will automate many of the tedious tasks normally required to facilitate an inkind (noncash) community-giving program.

There are two ways to receive classroom materials through your School Wishes website:

Post a Wish

Your school’s staff (teachers, teacher’s aides, school club leaders, before/after school care coordinators, etc.) submit Wish Requests for classroom materials, books, technology, or extracurricular items. Wish Requests are approved by your School Wishes Champion and are automatically posted to your School Wishes website. Parents and other potential donors are notified via email when new wishes are posted. Website visitors select a wish to grant and pledge to deliver the items to your school. Once the donation is received, a “Thank You” email message is sent to the donor with a link to their online receipt.

Claim Available Items

‘Available Items’ are items that are no longer needed by people (or businesses) in your community that may be useful in your classrooms.  Potential donors submit a description of the items they would like to offer your teachers. Teacher claim the items through a password-protected “Teachers Only” area.

Simple to Use
If you are comfortable using the Internet and email, you will be able to setup, deploy and manage your own School Wishes website. NO web programming skills or Information Technology (IT) support is needed. Within minutes, your teachers will be pros at submitting Wish Requests!

Always Up-to-Date
During a time when IT resources are stretched to the limit (or non-existent!), your School Wishes website is always up-to-date. Wishes are posted throughout the year and after a wish is granted, it is automatically removed from the website. Wishes that are not fulfilled within 3 months are automatically expired off of the website to ensure that only the most current wishes remain available.

Coordinates Entire Community Giving Program
We all need reminders to ensure that we don’t drop the ball on important tasks! Your School Wishes website automatically takes on most of the coordination tasks for your community-giving program by sending out email reminders at the appropriate times.

  • Your School Wishes Champion is notified when Wish Requests need approval
  • Teachers are reminded to send “Thank You” messages to donors and are notified when their wishes are granted or expired
  • Potential donors are reminded to come back to your website when teachers post new wishes

Central Donor Management
Your School Wishes website retains a complete giving history for every donor. Your School Wishes Champion can analyze donor-giving patterns and email donors that meet specific criteria. Who are your largest donors? When are donors more likely to give? At the beginning of the school year? During the end of the year to meet tax deadlines? Do corporations donate more than individual donors? Your School Wishes website answers all of these questions and more.

Preserves Teacher and Donor Privacy
Preserving the privacy of all users of your School Wishes website is of the highest priority. Teacher and donor email addresses will not be available to the public through the School Wishes website. All email communications between donors and teachers are submitted through web forms that mask each others email address. Donors may also choose to remain anonymous.
